FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) is a Firefox Add-on that lets you synchronize your Home and office PCs easily. Here are the steps to backup and restore Firefox Add-Ons, bookmarks, passwords, profiles and other settings:
1. Install FEBE add-on by visiting this page in your Firefox browser. Click on ‘Allow’ when Firefox prevents the add-on installation pop-up window.
2. After restarting Firefox, go to Tools –> FEBE –> FEBE Options.
3. This will open the FEBE Options dialog. By default, extensions and themes backup is enabled. In order to add more items to the backup, click on ‘Additional items’ drop down button. Select all those that you want to backup, such as bookmarks (both as json and html files), preferences, cookies, usernames and passwords, search plugins, browser & form fill history, backup permissions, userChrome files, and so on.
Click the ‘Select All’ button if you want to take a backup of everything at one go. If you select ‘Full profile’ option under the ‘Backup type’ section, FEBE will create a backup of your Firefox profile, which includes everything.
4. There are two ways to store your Firefox Backup, one is to save it on your hard disk, the other is to upload it to your Box.net account. You can choose to do both, or one of them.
4a. In the ‘Directory’ tab, you can set the backup destination directory. Enable the ‘Use timestamped directories’ if you would like FEBE to automatically add a date and timestamp to thebackup folders each time you make one.
4b. In the ‘box.net’ tab, you can enable automatic uploading of backup data to your Box.net account. Enter your Box.net account login username and password and click on ‘Save login’. Test the account by hitting the ‘Test login’ button. FEBE shows up a message giving details of your Box.net account’s capacity, used & available space, and also the max upload size.
Select the check box ‘Upload automatically after each backup’ if you want FEBE to keep your backup folder on your PC in sync with that on your Box.net account.
5. You can schedule regular and automated backups daily/weekly/monthly or upon Firefox start/shutdown in the ‘Schedule’ tab. You can also set reminders for backup. Once you are done making all the necessary changes, click on the ‘OK’ button to save all of FEBE options.
6. Now go to Tools –> FEBE –> Perform Backup to start the backup operation.7. Once the backup is done, you will see a full report all the items that have been backed up. An automatic upload to Box.net takes place if you have enabled this feature in Step 4b. You will now find the fullbackup of your Firefox browser in your computer as well as on your online Box.net account.
Restoring Bookmarks, Passwords, Add-Ons
8. Now that you have the backup, it’s time to synchronize your other Computer with the saved bookmarks, passwords, add-ons and other data. Repeat Step 1 above to complete FEBE installation on your second PC. Also go through step 4b (Box.net account login) if you like torestore from your online Firefox backup.9. Copy the backup folder you created in step 6 to your PC using a pen drive. Or if you have used your Box.net account for backup, you can restore the data online.
10. Go to Tools –> FEBE –> Restore –> Restore Extensions or Tools –> FEBE –> Restore (from online Backup) –> Restore Extensions to start synchronizing your Firefox Add-Ons.
